SAGEBRUSH ON THURSDAY

We've been working all year on our Sagebrush Fiber Artisans' challenge. Thursday is the meeting when we all get to share our challenge projects, tell about what we learned in the process, and enjoy each other's company! Come see us at the Cedar City Visitor's Center at 6:30. If you are not a member, feel free to come in anyway - SFA would love to have you join them!
Note: The Yarn Bard neither owns nor runs Sagebrush Fiber Artisans. SFA is a community group run by local fiber enthusiasts; Isabel  and Bonnie are merely members.

Uluru is a lovely sock-weight yarn with a soft halo. We like this yarn for socks, vests, hats, shawls and much more. We're featuring it this week, so mention Blogspot and get 25% off your Uluru purchase!
YARN is a film by Una Lorenzen about our craft and how it ties us all together. If you can manage to see it, you'll agree that it's fabulous! Una makes yarn craft come alive with stunning yarn art, beautiful photography and extremely talented artists.

The world as it is emerging is rapidly becoming more polarized and introverted. Teens and young adults don't know how to communicate, pre-teens through adults are burying themselves in video games and addictive media behavior, and much of what they are watching is usually trivial at best, but most is damaging. Teaching our youth the value of crafting not only can wean them away from such harmful behaviors, but can restore to them the self esteem that media addiction removes.

Uniting the yarn community is just a start to uniting the world; if you pass along your fiber talents and knowledge you will create a legacy of creativity, inspiration and passion for craft.

Today we're talking about industry news. We like to stay current on what's currently going on in the world.

In Must Farm, in England, a 3,000 year old ball of yarn has been discovered. This is one of the most delicate finds they have found in this area, named Britian's Pompeii. Most of all it's wonderful to have insight into what life was like for the families of Must Farm, including yarn!!

Tip of the Week!!
If you hate estimating a tail or have an enormous number of stitches to cast on with a long tail cast on, try the two yarn method. This method ensures that you don't end up with too short of a tail by having one end or ball of yarn be the tail and the other end or ball of yarn be as it is normally.

You start with a slip knot to attach the two together on your needle, and then dip between the two different yarns to begin your longtail cast on. This method can be done in one color or two, and if being done in one color, the one end can be clipped off and the end woven in later. See our video on Double Ended Cast On for a visual walkthrough.

Hello everyone. Today we're going to talk about some things happening in the yarn world.

In Iceland there are so many tourist buyjng Icelandic wool as they tour through, that they're on the brink of a shortage. A whole group of Australians knit and crocheted a field of poppies for fallen soldiers that was then displayed at the Chelsea Flower Show. Tell us what you think of things happening in the industry or a story you want to hear more about!!!
